Introduction

Cotswold School is a large urban contributing primary school catering for students in Years I to 6. Cotswold School is located in the north-west of Christchurch, New Zealand. We provide an attractive, well maintained environment and place a high priority on fostering home and school partnership to promote student learning.
Our school has grown in size in recent years and we have an enrolment zone in place to ensure that local students have priority of access to the school. The school currently caters for 500 to 575 students each year.
Our students learn in well organised, purposeful and inviting classrooms. There are positive and affirming relationships between teachers and students and among students. Teachers have high expectations for learning and behaviour. During their last visit to our school the Education Review Office confirmed that our students felt safe and well supported in their learning.
Cotswold teachers provide a variety of learning opportunities through well planned lessons that have a clear focus on the development of skills for learning. Cotswold teachers share the purpose of lessons with students and provide good quality feedback that includes students’ next steps for learning. Students are grouped both within and across classes to meet their learning needs. Learning is made purposeful and relevant through some integration with other learning areas and the linking of skills such as reading and writing.
Our staff and students are supported by a board that demonstrates good governance. Trustees work with teachers, students and the wider community to give priority to meeting students’ needs. These are reflected in the board’s comprehensive strategic and annual plans.
Our school has a supportive parent community. Parents are kept well informed about school matters and how they can be involved in their student’s learning.
We welcome you to our community and we would love the opportunity to showcase our school to you.
